Do you know ?

Many of the popular brands of baby oil products presently available in the market are made of mineral oil or light liquid paraffin oil (LLP) base and such mineral oils or paraffin oils are very harmful for baby’s tender skin. Unfortunately the innocent babies are becoming victim of such ignorance. The mineral oils or paraffin oils are only derived substances of petroleum and may even be carcinogenic in nature. When applied on baby skin, such mineral oils coat the skin like plastic wrap which slows down normal cell development causing the skin to prematurely age, besides causing skin eruptions, allergy, eczema, dermatitis etc. The small babies have the tendency to often suck their fingers and lick own body skin. While doing so they tend to consume internally such mineral oil from the skin which is more harmful for the babies.

To save the babies from such ruthless treatment of everyday being rubbed with mineral oil, the brand Baby First has created a 100% natural Baby Oil which contains no mineral oil, no paraffin oil, no preservative, no colouring agent, no added fragrance, no artificial chemical and no harmful toxins.

Baby First baby oil is the pure and natural form of virgin oil made by state of the art ‘Total Cold Process Technology’ from fresh coconut milk extracted from best quality handpicked coconuts produced in the Malabar Region of Kerala, which is well known for producing world’s finest variety of coconuts. Baby First Baby Oil created out of 100% natural source is made of soft, soothing and nourishing Virgin Coconut Oil prepared from fresh coconut milk extracted out of best quality coconut produced in the Malabar Region of Kerala, which is known worldwide for producing finest variety of coconut. A state of the art ‘Total Cold Process Technology’ has been adopted for retaining all good properties of this unique natural oil. Application of heat and chemical is totally avoided in the manufacturing process to avoid loss of any natural beneficial properties in the oil produced. This ingredient is also known as Virgin Coconut Oil, which is widely different from the common coconut oil made of copra.

For external use VCO used in Baby First Baby Oil is a versatile beauty miracle. It is excellent massage oil for the skin of all ages including the new born babies. The VCO is significantly effective in improvement in skin hydration and increase in skin surface lipid levels. Not only does this VCO moisturize skin and help prevent wrinkles, its anti-fungal properties protect the skin from many diseases. The VCO also delays wrinkles and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Yes, this VCO helps preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases of skin due to its antioxidant properties.

Even hair will be smooth and shiny, and scalp issues like dandruff will improve, if this VCO is used regularly as hair oil. VCO is one of the best natural nutrition for scalp and hair. It is most effective in reducing the protein loss for damaged and undamaged hair. It provides the essential proteins required for nourishing the damaged hair. It is also effective as a hair conditioner.

VCO, the ingredient of Baby First Baby Oil, can also attack the bacteria responsible for tooth decay. The VCO facilitates absorption of calcium by human body which helps getting strong teeth and healthy bones. This VCO can thus be used even for dental and oral health care. VCO can also be consumed directly by the spoonful and is an excellent addition to almost any recipe. VCO has a very mild coconut flavor and is soft and clear oil at room temperature. The beneficial fats of the finished oil are not affected by heat.

The medium chain fatty acid (MCFA) found in virgin coconut oil (VCO) is rare in nature and highly health beneficial. MCFA are digested by the body in a different way than the common long chain fatty acids (LCFA) found in most other foods. MCFA are quickly digested, producing energy instead of body fat and arterial plaque like LCFA.

About 50 percent of the MFCA in virgin coconut oil is lauric acid, which strengthens the immune system and is also found in human breast milk. Caprylic acid and capric acid are also present, contributing to virgin coconut oil´s antifungal, antiviral and antibacterial properties. The health benefits of VCO are enormous. VCO is found to be effective in increased absorption of some of the B vitamins, the fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, K, beta-carotene, and some amino acids in human body. It can be useful in the treatment and prevention of obesity. VCO may even be helpful in preventing liver disease, kidney disease, Crohn's disease, cancer and many infectious illnesses, such as the flu, herpes, bladder infections, candida etc. Its effectiveness against serious illness such as AIDS and SARS are now being studied. Preliminary results have been very promising. In fact the list of benefits of this VCO is really endless.

Not all coconut oil is created equally. VCO is always preferable to any other type of coconut oil. VCO is produced with minimal processing. Quality VCO will have a clean, fresh, natural coconut smell and taste, with a translucent, almost mother of pearl colouring. Refined bleached and deodorized (RBD), hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated coconut oil are stripped of the beneficial MCFA and may contain trans fatty acids and chemical strains and so better be avoided.

Differences between Common Coconut Oil and Virgin Coconut Oil

Common coconut oil is made from copra, which is the dried form of coconut kernel. Copra is usually made by sun drying or kiln drying. The oil extracted from copra may further undergo the process of refinement, bleaching and deodorisation form the commercial angle, which is known as RBD coconut oil. In modern technology, oil is extracted from the copra by solvent extraction process which ensures higher recovery of oil from the copra. Heat and chemical processes are adopted to refine, bleach, deodorise and to increase shelf life of the oil. Application of heat during the process of manufacture of such RBD coconut oil strips the oil from many vitamins, phenolic compound and other nutrients of natural coconut, which get destroyed during the process of heating reducing the antioxidant activity of the oil so produced.

In contrast, Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is made directly from coconut milk produced from fresh coconut meat without application of any chemical. VCO can be made from coconut milk either by fermentation process or by centrifugal process. Good quality VCO, as used in Baby First Baby Oil, which is clear and transparent like water and is non-sticky in nature, is made by centrifugal process. The VCO used in Baby First Baby Oil is produced from fresh coconut milk obtained from finest quality coconuts by adopting the centrifugal process in a state of the art Total Cold Process Technology, thereby avoiding the possibilities of germination of the coconut milk that may occur in the fermentation process. The technology adopted in producing the ingredient oil of Baby First Baby Oil has been developed by Coconut Development Board, Government of India, which avoids application of heat or chemical at any stage of production. Since it is not subjected to heat at any stage and is extracted from fresh coconut milk with a cold process of extraction, the VCO used as the ingredient of Baby First is much richer in benefits than ordinary coconut oil and even VCO produced by other technologies.

VCO has higher contents of vitamin, antioxidants, minerals, medium chain fatty acids (MCTs) and protein when compared to most other oils including the common commercial copra based coconut oil. FFA content in VCO is less than 0.3% as against 3% in RBD coconut oil. VCO has a much better taste and fragrance than ordinary coconut oil. The shelf life of this VCO is much longer than ordinary coconut oil. Best quality VCO as used in Baby First products does not go rancid easily and maintains a long shelf life of nearly 3 years without any artificial preservative.

VCO has the presence of high amounts (nearly 50%) of Lauric Acid, which is otherwise found only in mother´s milk, Lauric Acid helps improving the immunity in babies. Having a natural source of Vitamin E, VCO ensures a healthy skin tone of babies if massaged regularly. VCO has significant antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties which help curing several skin diseases in natural process. Regular massage with VCO is reported to have resulted in better height and weight gain ratio of babies that mineral oil based baby oil. Rich in Ketone, VCO also helps in development of brain power. VCO has high level of energy content and rich nutritional values. Made of best quality VCO, Baby First Baby Oil has all these inherent properties in the oil.

This is one and only fruit that can be used to take care of all your needs. Coconut is one of the wonder foods on earth that amply provides for all human needs and has multiple health benefits.

Aptly titled 'kalpa vriksha', the coconut tree provides a nutritious source of food and drink such as fruit (coconut kernel), nutritional water, milk and oil. Coconut is a powerhouse of essential nutrients like vitamins, dietary fibre and minerals providing wide range of health benefits. Although this functional food has been widely used in traditional medicine, its amazing benefits have been recently unlocked.

Therapeutic Powers of Coconut, the Wonder Nut

Very few of us know that the coconut has properties of stabilizing blood sugar; lowering cholesterol; healing; hydration; and even replacing blood plasma in an emergency.

Reduces Risk of Heart Attack

Coconut helps to improve blood cholesterol levels in the body and lowers the risk of heart attack - it is due to low in sodium and high in potassium. Coconut meat and water contain a very good amount of potassium. 100 g of fresh coconut meat contains 356 mg or 7.5% of daily required levels of potassium. Coconut provides healthy short chain and medium chain fatty acids (MCFA) that are essential to good health. The important saturated fatty acid in the coconut is lauric acid (1:12 carbon fatty acid). Close to 98% of all fatty acids consumed are composed of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA), which are very different from MCFA that have no negative effect on cholesterol ratios and help to lower the risk of atherosclerosis (preventing vessel blockade) and protect against heart disease. Studies have shown that populations in Polynesia and Sri Lanka, where coconuts are a dietary staple, do not suffer from high serum cholesterol or heart disease. Coconuts not only improve the cholesterol ratio in your body, but also protect your arteries from damage.

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) is perhaps the healthiest edible oil on the Earth. All fats and oils are composed of molecules known as fatty acids. There are two methods of classifying fatty acids. The first you are probably familiar with is based on saturation. You have saturated fats, monounsaturated fats and polyunsaturated fats. Another system of classification is based on molecular size or length of the carbon chain within each fatty acid. Fatty acids consist of long chains of carbon atoms with hydrogen atoms attached. In this system you have short-chain fatty acids (SCFA), medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), and long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Coconut oil is composed predominately of medium-chain fatty acids (MCFA), also known as medium-chain triglycerides (MCT).

The vast majority of fats and oils in our diets, whether they are saturated or unsaturated or come from animals or plants, are composed of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA). Some 98 to 100% of all the fatty acids you consume are LCFA.

The size of the fatty acid is extremely important. Why? Because our bodies respond to and metabolize each fatty acid differently depending on its size. So the physiological effects of MCFA in coconut oil are distinctly different from those of LCFA more commonly found in our foods. The saturated fatty acids in coconut oil are predominately medium-chain fatty acids. Both the saturated and unsaturated fat found in meat, milk, eggs, and plants (including most all vegetable oils) are composed of LCFA.

MCFA are very different from LCFA. They do not have a negative effect on cholesterol and help to protect against heart disease. MCFA help to lower the risk of both atherosclerosis and heart disease. It is primarily due to the MCFA in coconut oil that makes it so special and so beneficial.

There are only a very few good dietary sources of MCFA. By far the best sources are from Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and palm kernel oils.

Controls Blood Sugar

The presence of Dietary fibre as high as 61% in coconut slows down the release of glucose into the bloodstream which in turn lowers the blood sugar levels and controls other complications caused due to diabetes. Coconut fibre helps bacteria in the gastrointestinal tract kill dangerous bacteria and also helps to expel intestinal parasites. It helps regulate blood sugar levels by reducing the glycemic index levels of foods. A small piece of coconut (about 2 by 2 inches and half an inch thick) will contain about 2.9 g. of net carbohydrates. Foods contain two types of carbohydrates - digestible and non-digestible. Digestible carbohydrates (soluble fibre) consist of starch and sugar and promote calories. Non-digestible carbohydrates (insoluble fibre) contain NO calories. Since the body cannot digest the dietary fibre in coconut, no calories are derived from it and it has no effect on blood sugar. Coconut water too is good for diabetes. Coconut Water is the refreshing clear liquid that is present in an immature nut when the kernel is green and the pulp is still soft. This water has a lot of nutrients that are very beneficial to diabetics. One cup of coconut water contains 8.9 g. of carbohydrates out of which 2.6 g. is the fibre content. Coconut Water can also help improve blood circulation, a major problem faced by diabetics that frequently causes symptoms like numbness in the feet and blurred vision. It helps to widen blood vessels and enables blood to flow freely through them. This is helpful in the case of diabetics who have developed coronary heart disease.

To understand how tender coconut is good for diabetes management it is necessary to have some basic knowledge about diabetes.

Diabetes is a metabolic disorder where the body is unable to convert glucose or sugar that is absorbed from food, into energy. The conversion of glucose to energy requires the presence of insulin, a hormone that is secreted by the pancreas.

In diabetes, either the pancreas cannot secrete insulin (type 1 diabetes) or the body does not utilize the insulin effectively (type 2 diabetes). As the body is unable to convert glucose into energy, the glucose remains in the bloodstream causing high blood sugar levels which has a very damaging effect on the body. Diabetics are prone to developing many other diseases like coronary heart disease and kidney disease. In fact, the majority of deaths in the case of diabetics are due to coronary heart disease.

Coconut water has a high fibre and low carbohydrate content that helps to control weight, an important factor in diabetes management. In addition, it contains many minerals, antioxidants and omega 3 fatty acids which are very beneficial to diabetics.

Another coconut product, coconut oil is also good for diabetes. Studies have shown that while food cooked in polyunsaturated oils can slow down the metabolic rate, coconut oil can stimulate the metabolic rate and assist in the fat burning process. Coconut oil contains saturated fats unlike those found in animal products. The saturated fats (lauric acid) do not cause cholesterol build-up and are an easy source of energy for diabetics. By just substituting regular cooking oil with coconut oil, avoiding sugar and keeping fit, one can help prevent this disease from developing.

Coconut flour too is good for diabetes patients. It is made from coconut meat after extracting its oil and has lower carbohydrate content than most other flours including wheat flour and corn flour. It is a rich source of fibre and can be substituted for other types of flour. Your food recipes will require modification if you are using coconut flour. More water or liquids will be required as the higher fibre content tends to absorb more water. Coconut flour has a net carbohydrate content of 7g per quarter cup serving. By comparison, a quarter cup of regular wheat flour contains approximately 23g of net carbohydrates.

Coconut for Type 1, 2 And Gestational Diabetes

Coconut is good for type 1 diabetes patients. It can help in dealing with some of the complications that arise in the case of type 1 diabetes. Coconut oil helps support the body's immune system, enhances fat burning and acts as an energy source. It contains healthy oils that can slow down the movement of food through the stomach into the intestines. This prevents the rapid spike in blood sugar levels and reduces the requirement for insulin in type 1 diabetics. Coconut is also good for type 2 diabetics. Coconut oil can help improve pancreas function, as well as increase insulin sensitivity.

Coconut water is beneficial during pregnancy and in gestational diabetes. This is a condition where women who are not ordinarily diabetic, exhibit high levels of blood sugar when pregnant. Its ability to improve insulin sensitivity and increase pancreas function helps regulate blood sugar levels in women who have high blood sugar. It also helps soothe the stomach and can help alleviate symptoms of morning sickness.

(Note : Each person may have different causes of disease and symptom. It is advisable that qualified medical person's advice should also be sought in all cases of diseases and symptoms).
